In Dragon Ball Super Episode 86, Android 17 will finally make his much anticipated return, and it looks like Goku will go Blue while sparring with him. In this article, we will breakdown the preview trailer of Episode 86.
Before, we get into the frame by frame preview breakdown let’s take a look at the title and preview summary.
Dragon Ball Super Episode 86: “Trading Blows for the first Time! Android no.17 vs Son Goku! Airing Date- April 16th
As Son Goku and the gang hurry to gather members for the Tournament of Power, the Gods of destruction plot to squash Goku’s home, Universe 7. Unaware of this, Goku tries to recruit Android no.17
Alternate- As Goku hurries to gather the members for Tournament of Power, he comes to an island where Android 17 works as an animal reserve. There Goku spars with no.17 to gauge his power, then immediately tries to recruit him. But no.17 turns Goku down. Why?!
As we know, previously Goku recruited Krillin, 18 and Buu for the Universe 7 team, while Gohan got Piccolo. From the openings and other promotional materials, we already knew which 10 fighters will be in the Universe 7 team, and Android 17 is there. So, we know for sure that Android 17 will agree to Goku’s proposal.
Now, we will also take a look at Dragon Ball Super Episode 87 Title and Preview summary because sometimes in these spoilers they get it mixed. Something’s that are supposed to happen in Episode 86 might get mentioned in the 87 section.
Dragon Ball Super Episode 87- “Hunt the poachers! Goku and No.17’s joint battle!!” Airing Date- April 23rd
After No.17 turns down Goku’s attempt to recruit him, Goku tries to convince him. The two then sense someone approaching. The sky goes dark, and when they look up, there’s a giant spaceship in the sky.
No.17 battles poacher to save animals, wanting to recruit NO.17 for the Tournament of Power at all costs, Goku joins the fight. Though NO.17 had turned Goku down before, after the poachers are defeated with Goku’s help, he agrees to enter the tournament. Meanwhile, Gohan is off visiting Piccolo.
So, we got a lot of information here, and these will aid us as we go through the preview.
Before anything else, I want to talk about that Spaceship thing that got everyone hyped and is the most talked about scene of this preview. If the spoilers’ titles are anything to go by, then they’ll actually deal with this spaceship in Episode 87. So, the appearance of this ship could be one of those things that we see at the last moment of the Episode. I mean Episode 85 did leave some more exploring scope for Universe 11, as the Pride Troopers will now go to Jiren; who is the real deal of Universe 11. So, they could show that stuff, and then by the time that spaceship appears and attacks we could be standing on the verge of the end of that episode. This will be the case if the spoilers we got right now are accurate.
So, this Spaceship shoots a beam right away, kind of like an Independence Day reference, looks quite similar. Don’t know what this beam is supposed to do, is it like they were trying to one shot Earth? Doesn’t look that powerful or is it just they were trying to abduct or harm wild animals?
However, the next shot we see 17 coming out of an explosive smoky something. Feels like he defended that beam from hitting Earth and is now flying towards the spaceship to counter.
Anyways the real question is what is this Space Ship? Who sent it and why was it necessary?
We did see The Pride Trooper’s Spaceship in Episode 85, but it was totally different from the one in question. So we are left with 2 possible outcomes, it’s either some kind of intergalactic poachers group who just want to abduct some wild life from Earth or It’s a plot from the Gods of Destruction. In the 87 spoilers, it’s mentioned that Goku joins 17 to fight the poachers, but if it were normal humans shouldn’t 17 be able to finish it within seconds. That can be explained by maybe something like 17 could do it alone, Goku just joined because he wanted to help anyway. However, the spoilers also remind us that Goku is unaware of the Gods of Destruction meeting against Universe 7. Then, they bring the spaceship part. So, there could be a link between the Gods and the Spaceship, it could just be a part of their attempt to either destroy Goku or at least waste time of Universe 7 fighters ahead of the Tournament, but in that case the question will be couldn’t all these Gods arrange something important rather than such a joke of an attempt; they very well know how powerful Goku is. If Goku and 17 alone could take care of it, then it must not have been a really big threat, and we know it’s going to be taken care off. Because the coming episodes that is 88 and 89 are not about it. 88 will highlight the Piccolo-Gohan training, while in 89 Goku will recruit Master Roshi and Tien.
There’s another hyped scene, between SSB Goku and 17, I’ll be coming to that shortly.
We are also waiting to know what the Gods of Destruction are really up to, as their hatred against Goku is illogical. Goku not being responsible for all this is not even left as a gray area to be interpreted by the Fans. Whis and Vados on different occasions explain, how Goku is not responsible for the destruction rather should be thanked. Because if not for Goku’s proposal Zeno would have destroyed the lower ranked Universes by now; Goku’s proposal earned them a chance to fight for their survival, and have a shot at potentially changing Zeno’s mind. At this point, it looks like The Gods of Destruction are just plain jealous of Goku, for how close he is to Zeno even after being a mortal. This jealousy is what fueling willful ignorance from their part. So, let’s see if they show more of where these Gods are headed, and at what point they get over it.
Anyway, In the first scene of the preview, we see Android 17 easily deflecting away bullet shots. Obviously, that’s nothing to him, it’s just a look at what he has been doing as an animal reserve ranger all these years. None of these Evil Poachers could ever stand a chance against someone like 17. It’s interesting to see the bullets scene though, we are seeing that frequently in DBS, first with Krillin, then that Goku saltbae scene and now 17. Well, bullets are the best form of attack for the normal humans, so that’s what pops up whenever they try to show something including them. So from the preview, we understand that 17 is going to totally wreck the shit out of these guys, they just don’t see him coming. He gets them with some swift chops from the back. This one shot looks weird if you pause on it as if 17 can extend his arms like Piccolo, but it’s just actually perspective to show speed. Only looks weird when you pause every frame like a retard.
As you know Goku and 17 are going to meet for the first time, so this looks like a cool scene where 17 is showing around Goku what he has been up to. Look at the surroundings it’s beautiful, we see a mystical looking creature, 17 just letting Goku know how much he cares about Wild Animals and nature overall. Looks like DBS is on a trip to give us some lessons, like in Episode 85 with Fit Buu they were trying to say we should stop blaming our genes, and start working out, and now this is a wild life awareness message. Just Kidding!
Okay, now the controversial one, so we have a scene where it looks Goku and Android 17 is sparring, and there’s like a fist collision, but the part that many finds unsettling is Goku is in his Super Saiyan Blue form, and not only that he looks to be struggling. Actually, we shouldn’t be judging to that extent just based on one scene, Goku did go SSB against Krillin to make him mentally prepared to face stronger opponents. Also, this might potentially help them, Future Trunks was able to get half hold of the God Ki just by training with Vegeta. This could just be a case like that, and perhaps Goku overpowers 17 within seconds. Also undoubtedly 17 would have to have a power boost, his older self is now weaker than Krillin that would be no good in the tournament.
However, If we try to think out of the box, maybe something else is going on there. This is highly unlikely; we just want to talk about all the possible outcomes. So, if you see the color effect of the scene, it is pretty similar to how it looks when the beam is coming down from the spaceship. Also, why would it be so explosive if it’s just a fist collision in a fight, we can see a lot of ki sparkle or shocks coming to both the ways, and the aura or the energy or whatever surrounding the punch bump seems to have some similarity with that beam! So, it could be that Goku and 17 punched on the beam at the same time to basically explode it right there before it hit the earth. Maybe it was too late or the beam was too strong to be just deflected far away suddenly or it could potentially cause harm to the planet. So, they basically decided to attack and neutralize it by kind of taking the blow in a way. Like, we see in this scene 17 is coming out from an explosion as he flies upwards probably towards the ship, it falls in line with this prediction. Again, this is unlikely to be the case because beams are not usually defended like that, it just could it be what it looks like.
Anyways, even if it’s Android 17 giving SSB Goku a run for his money, I would not call it illogical. As the difference 17 and 18 has as compared to other androids with the exception of Cell. Is that they can power up because they were originally humans only to be modified by Dr. Gero. They are just enhanced humans, their abilities were just increased. So with the training, they can power up and should be able to power up at a faster rate than normal human warriors. Don’t forget they were way beyond the traditional Super Saiyan Level, in the future timeline they were able to kill all the Z fighters, including the likes Vegeta, Piccolo, and Gohan. So, if 17 trained on a regular basis he should reach a formidable level. We don’t know just how much potential they possess after all. If Frieza was able to match SSB Goku with a few months of training, the idea of 17 coming close with consistent training is not totally ridiculous. 17 was way way powerful than that Frieza.
Anyway, what do you think? Are you excited for the episode?
